District 12 Goings-On

  • D12 Primary Date: February 18th 2025

Spring General Election: April 1st 2025

  • The council president put a timeline and breakdown of the topic on her blog.

2 main points that stuck out to me:

    • Sale from the city to Madison Ice Inc happened in 2004. The $1 transfer is from Madison Ice Inc to East Madison Ice Collective (EMIC)

    • The original sale did NOT include a deed restriction on the land, but this transfer would include one. This means that the land must be used for a sports and recreation use and EMIC couldn’t just sell the land at top dollar to developers

  • See time lapse images of construction at 3 stages.

With private funding secured, construction is set to begin in September 2023 with an expected completion date of February 2025.

  • Madison Public Library is planning a new library and community facility at Reindahl Park. The proposed “Imagination Center at Reindahl Park” will not be an ordinary library. It will be a transformational space designed and directed by the northeast Madison community. The Imagination Center at Reindahl Park will be a place for the community to gather and learn. It will be a safe place for social interaction, civic engagement, and cultural expression. The center will focus on holistic health and expanding economic opportunities for library visitors.

  • The City of Madison is collaborating with Dane County to plan for and design a purpose-built shelter facility that will serve primarily men in our community who experience homelessness. The facility, to be built at 1904 Bartillon Drive, will be Madison’s first purpose-built shelter. Please join the City of Madison, Dane County and Porchlight, Inc at one of the three upcoming public information meetings to get an overview of the project, pre-design concepts and information on next steps.
